Earth Release (土遁, Doton) allows the user to manipulate the surrounding earth for offensive and defensive purposes, being one of the most versatile elemental transformations.

The majority of earth-based techniques can be formed by either spitting molded chakra from the mouth or imbuing chakra into the ground for those techniques that directly manipulate it. This does not need to be implicitly stated in each description, though.

All Earth Release techniques are punctuated by the Snake hand seal.

Dorodan (Mudshot) - 150 Ninjutsu

The user spits a massive wad of muddy earth from their mouth at the opponent. The weighty and slightly vicious shot is meant to adhere itself to the target and, if it sticks to either an arm or leg, can encumber their movements with the affected limb.


Shinjuu Zanshu (Double Suicide Decapitation) - 300 Ninjutsu

After performing the necessary seals, the user places both hands to the ground and instantly submerges themselves underground. They may then move in a direct line up to 15m from the point of entry toward their target. Reaching through the earth, the user pulls the target down into the ground until only their head is above ground.

The ground where the target is pulled under is composed of loosened dirt. As such, escape is easy, though, the user may emerge from the earth and immediately follow up with another attack to exploit this brief window of opportunity.


Doryuu Taiga (Earth Flow River) - 495 Ninjutsu

In a direct line spreading 5m wide, the consistent and velocity of the ground in front of the user is changed so that it flows rapidly in the opposite direction. Anything caught in the flow is thrown back for 5m.

Retsudo Tenshou (Tearing Earth Turning Palm) - 550 Ninjutsu

The ground in a 20m line from the user is violently upturned, toppling anything within its path. Moderate or severe leg injuries may be sustained, if caught in its path.


Tobi Tsubute (Flying Thrown Spears) - 600 Ninjutsu

Numerous, foot-wide projectiles of earth shoot in a spread formation directly from the ground in front of the user in a 10m spray to bombard the opponent.


Moguragakure (Hiding Like a Mole) - 700 Ninjutsu

After performing the requisite seals, the user submerges themselves underground, diving to maximum depth of up to 10m. The entry point is instantly concealed as well, effectively hiding the user and where they entered the earth from view so long as the act was not seen in performance. The user may remain hidden for up to 3 rounds before needing to emerge for air.

Dosekiryuu (Earth and Stone Dragon) - 4,500 Ninjutsu

A massive dragon, formed of dense yet waterlogged earth, is formed from the ground to devour the opponent. Upon contacting the opponent, the opponent is bound in thick and mucky earth that is hard to maneuver in. The dragon will chase its target for a maximum of 2 rounds after creation before it dissipates.


Doryuuheki (Earth Style Wall) - 5,000 Ninjutsu

The user creates a solid wall of earth as a form of defence. Chakra is either converted to earth within the body and then spat out to form the wall or the user can manipulate pre-existing earth to form the wall. At maximum, the wall is 15m in width and can rise up to 30m.

Daichi Ganshou (Ground Bedrock) - 5,000 Ninjutsu

Forming the requisite hand seals, the user manipulates the earth on either side of the target to rise up in the form of four ramparts reaching 20m high. Another hand seal and either of the abutting walls move crush the target between them.


Otoshibuta (Dropping Lid) - 7,000 Ninjutsu

The user molds a massive amount of chakra in their stomach, and spits it high over their targeted location. The sodden earth forms into and solidifies as a massive, concave lid with a 10m radius which then falls and traps anyone within. Optionally, a specific design can be formed on top of the lid.

Meant to confine targets within, all attacks to its inner wall are only ½ effective while those made on the outer wall are twice as effective.
